Kharagpur, August 23: The Mas Oyama Challenge Cup – All India Kyokushin Karate Championships 2026 was successfully held on August 22 and 23 at the PNK Hall Auditorium in Kharagpur, bringing together Kyokushin Karate practitioners from across India.
Organised by the Kharagpur Kyokushin Fight Academy, under the leadership of Sensei Rahul Barua, 2nd Dan Black Belt, the prestigious tournament was supported by Kyokushin Kenbukai India.
The championship witnessed participation from around 375 students, competing in various categories including Basic Kata and Kumite. The event also featured cash prizes for the Grand Champion and winners of the Kumite Championship, adding further excitement and competitive spirit to the tournament.
Around 75 teachers were involved in the championship, while the overall gathering, including students, teachers and parents, reached approximately 570 participants. Competitors from different parts of the country took part, making the event one of the major Kyokushin Karate tournaments organised in India.
The tournament was chaired by Dilip Ghosh, Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development, Government of West Bengal, who also attended as the Chief Guest. Amit Kumar Mitra, Kharagpur Town IC, was present as the Special Guest.
The Mas Oyama Challenge Cup provided a significant platform for young Karate practitioners to demonstrate their discipline, technical skills, fighting ability and competitive spirit. The participation of students from across India highlighted the growing popularity of Kyokushin Karate and martial arts among young athletes.
The successful organisation of the championship by Kharagpur Kyokushin Fight Academy and the support of Kyokushin Kenbukai India marked an important occasion for the Indian Kyokushin Karate community.
